Citizen Science
Audubon's science program builds upon
Audubon's heritage of bird conservation and the successful
engagement of citizen scientists who assist with our conservation
projects. These range from projects like the Christmas Bird
Count and the newly developed Great Backyard Bird Count which
allow participants to collect important
information on wintering birds, to the more recent Vermont
Important Bird Area (IBA) program which provides citizen
scientists the opportunity to collect information at some
of the state's most important sites for birds.
Citizen scientists are essential in Audubon's
efforts to protect birds and their habitats in Vermont. Whether
it is participating in monthly monitoring walks at local
IBAs or helping collect data during the Vermont mid-winter
Bald Eagle survey, citizen scientists contribute greatly
to a better understanding of Vermont's birds. For more information
on how you can become part of the citizen science movement
in Vermont contact Mark LaBarr, Audubon Vermont's Director
of Conservation.
