Lake Champlain Colonial Waterbird Database Project
Glossy Ibis

Glossy Ibis are large heron-like bird with a distinctly down-curved bill. Glossy Ibis have only been documented nesting in the Lake Champlain Basin since 1999 when 2 pairs were located on the Four Brothers Islands. Nesting was not documented in 2000. A single pair returned to the islands in 2001 and 2002. Changes in the vegetation associated with the increase in Double-crested Cormorant population may ultimately affect future nesting of this species.
