Lake Champlain Colonial Waterbird Database Project
Snowy Egret

Snowy Egrets are known to have occurred at one location in Lake Champlain and only for a brief period of time during the late 1980's, early 1990's. A single pair, possibly two was located on Young Island. They nested amongst the Black-crowned Night Herons in some low shrubs on the east side of the island. They stopped nesting on the island during the rapid rise in Double-crested Cormorant numbers in the 1990's.
